Wikipedia vandalism is just a new phenomenon, but a user was able to add tens of thousands of items to apples. Among the pages that were disfigured, including leaders, such as President Joe Biden, vice president of Kamala Harris and Justin Trudeau, Canada’s prime minister. Articles for celebrities, including Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck and Madonna, were also affected.
The responsible person edited a template used at around 53,000 pages, Gizmodo reported. As such, vandalism disfigured the pages that are blocked and are supposed to have a greater protection of such attacks. Wikipedia administrators solved the problem shortly after it came on Monday morning. The user has been prohibited indefinitely.
An administrator noted that the most commonly used templates are blocked, but it seems that some of them remain editable by anyone, or as in this case, first a neuter user who makes some good editions of faith. The administrators protected some most common templates as a result of vandalism.
The “unacceptable” attack “violates a series of Wikipedia policies,” said a spokesman for the Wikimedia Foundation to Gizmodo. “Most vandalism in Wikipedia is corrected within five minutes, as we saw today.” Even though the site is huge and that evolves, it is encouraging that administrators can detect and resolve important disfigurement incidents rapidly.
